I was looking for a beach to enjoy another session of barbecue away from the woods (click here for my review on Waterlow Park) during the Bank Holiday weekend and at 26°C. Chalkwell Beach at Southend-On-Sea was the perfect answer as is only an hour an 15 minutes away from London. Most other nice beaches is at least 2 hours away.
The beach is clean with mixture of sands and rocks. High tide at around 12.30 pm but still have enough beach space to lay down your mat and enjoy the view. I had a very good time enjoying barbecue at Chalkwell Beach and would recommend to anyone looking a trip down to a beach.
However I had to confess that I only noticed BBQ is actually not allowed at Chalkwell beach whilst writing this post. According to the council, the only beach that allows barbecue is Shoebury East Beach which is 25 minutes away. Although there are a few other families enjoying BBQ at the beach.
There are ample of parking space available at a reasonable price. However for some reason the council is charging a bit more if you are paying for longer hours. For example, is £1.00 for the first hour, if you are paying for 2 hours at one go, it cost £2.10. You would have expect to pay £2.00 or lower but there you go. (I paid £4.30 for a straight 4 hours session). In order to save 30 pence, pay every hour 🙂
